Val & David are former UK Blues champions and have been instrumental in developing the contemporary Chill Out and Blues styles now popular across the UK. They are also the creators of the innovative and sell out UTOPIA brand Chill Out and Blues events. Their teaching style is well known across the country for being clear, relaxed and humourous with equal content for leads and follows.
This workshop concentrates on musicality using synchronicity of movement, quick fix stops, double timing techniques and flourishes to help you adapt to musical changes and give you more confidence and style when dancing to slower music.
The structure of the day will be split into 2 sections:
Hitting the Breaks:Blues dancing is held together by the Blues Basic (the close hold positions). To add some musicality and more visual appeal to the dance we need opportunities to stop and hit breaks. All the moves taught in this section will provide you with maximum opportunities to hit breaks in the music.
Improvisation & Flourishes:In this section the focus is more on the open positions, sometimes from Ladies Hi-Jacks and sometimes Male led, to allow possibilities for flourishes that are focused on best interpreting the music whether that be a percussion, lyrical interlude or stop.
The workshop is then followed by a 1 hour freestyle practice session hosted by Val & David. They will be on hand to both dance and offer 1:1 individual feedback and advice.
This workshop is ideal for anyone who has experienced the Chill out sessions and wants to enhance their repertoire and styling.
