...at least, that's how I read it.

It's down to this document released by the Home Office.
SELLING ALCOHOL
RESPONSIBLY:
The New Mandatory
Licensing Conditions
The Mandatory Code for Alcohol Retailers England and Wales
April 2010

It applies to pubs, bars etc.

In particular, this line:
"Ensure that customers have access to free tap water so that they can space out their drinks and not get too intoxicated too quickly"

I'm not a lawyer, barrister, solititor or whatever, but changes they are a-coming by the looks of it Smile

Home Office Document

Hi Mike,
I Noticed this too, Its official, illegal to charge for tap water from April 2010.
Check it out condition 3 in the new Licensing conditions:

http://www.morningadvertiser.co.uk/pdf/MandatoryLicensingConditions.pdf

Just need to stop the Clubs, bars & Hall etc... trying to find ways round it like, charging for Glasses. Rolling Eyes

Please Remember people even if you have problems at an event, the bar at the venues are not under the organizers control and organizers that are lucky to be in venues that give free water are just lucky that the policy of that venue is so.
I end up paying at the start of some of my evenings so people don't get charged for there water. (BUT TIMES ARE CHANGING) Wink

Seems that Phil of Mojive has seen the new regs. His latest info release states "free water on demand" at the MoClub. A plus point for any freestyle/lesson.

Not gonna say I'm surprized it's Mojive that are so on the ball and turning this to his advantage, but I am! Smile

The other thing I noticed in the regulations is that you can't give away alcohol. I've noticed a few MJ organisers do this where there is no bar.

I've often wondered if they could give away alcohol to cutomers paying for entrance if they don't have a licence. Perhaps their logic goes something like this "If it's a licencing requirement I'd better not get a licence".

Whats all the fuss about. Water has always been free at the Kinson freestyle and we have been doing it for 5 years! Wink
If they had charged, we never would have booked the hall.
