Hmm, a couple of years ago I went to a jive event with the Jive Aces.. They were good but they played fast track after fast track after fast track...
It may have appealed to Swing dancers or Lindy Hoppers but as a modern jive event I didn't really think it worked! Perhaps if the live band performed music more appropriate for modern jive it would be better! Then again, one of the things I love about modern jive is the diversity and range of music you can dance to.. It is a nice idea though DizzyBee!! |

Jive Riot always used to run events with bands. Im not sure if they still do this however.
The main problems with a band is they usually play a certain style of music and Jivers have become used to having a night filled with variety and the cost involved in getting a decent band in. This would push the cost of tickets up by alot.
Ginger Jive usualy have a 1940s style band at thier annual event and from past experience its a great nigth with 2 rooms (one band, one normal MJ DJ music). Might be worth looking that one up for a good Band experience.

Thanks RichardP & Kev for your views.. It was just a thought.. I can see your reasoning on certain issues with a Live band..
Never Say Never though eh..
Hey Teedee.. Your second name not Qdos is it..?? Politeness costs nothing and bluntness is unattractive..

Oh dear, sorry Dizzy
Guess I was a bit blunt. Certainly didn't mean to be rude though - merely expressing, in a slightly over economic way, that live music at a jive event isn't really my cup of tea...
Just wrote a load of stuff to try to politely expand on my first comment... And then deleted it all after realizing that I was just babbling!!!
Guess I have found in the past that live music isn't for me (for a jive event) and, yet, I am struggling to put into words exactly why not... There is the similar music (as touched on by Strictly and RichyP), the long gaps between tracks, but mainly the music just seems to lack a certain "something". That's the bit I'm struggling to put into words. _________________ http://www.le-jive.co.uk/

Hmmm I'm sure it would be possible if there's enough interest in it. I could get a band who'd do a gig I'm sure. Genuine 50's style stuff is what they do.
Let me know if anyone is interested and I'd be happy to put folk intouch. |

Just read the responses to this topic and most, if not all, seem to prefer no. I'm one for yes and I have a few reasons:
1) From my personal experience it allows me to listen to the music better so that I could re-act to stops/breaks etc. Thus improve my dancing.
2) If you have a partner who doesn't dance then a live band would allow them to enjoy the evening as well as you.
3) Most live bands jive gigs that I've attended are fun. They make a real effort in entertaining the audience.
4) I think it really depends on the band to teh speed of the music. The Jive Aces as quoted previously can play really fast or average speed music.
Thanks. |

The only negative vibes so far have been over the speed of the music live bands are perceived to play. Let's face it this is a debate we have over DJ's music too, so it oughtn't be something that prevents a venue having a live band.
Here's some tracks from the band I know well that they have on-line. I'm sure you'll see that they do a variety of speeds from fast to very slow.

If anyone would like to see them do a gig down your way then let me know and I'll be happy to ask them. |

Thank you Drdance... It appears theres more of a positive here than a negative.. and on a venue like this a band would probably
only play for part of the evening, say 2 x half hour slots and then DJ's or Laptops take over.
So if in fear of Live band not a hit then we've not suffered all night. However I do believe with the right band..No one would suffer..
Ive suggested.. Ive asked.. Ive had the feedback..I can't go any further with it now.. Im not in the position to get this rolling..(if I could I would)
It just would be nice to see someone take the plunge and give it a go.

A valid point Qdos.. Ive just listened to that band and the music is good and they sound great..
but I dont think a Solely Rock 'n' Roll Band would be the right choice of band.. Its got to be a band
who are varied in what they play/sing.. Do you not agree??
