There seems to be many discussions recently about West Coast Swing, whether it should or should not be added to The Southern Jive forums. Frankly I have no interest whatsoever in West Coast Swing, I can't see the sense in it, or the point and I certainly can't dance to it. I believe it started on the West Coast of America and as far as I am concerned it should stay there. We have far too many influences from America. The next I will be reading comments about ?LINE DANCING? on the forum, now there?s a thing, have you ever seen such a bunch of un-happy, non having fun, miserable faces in you're entire life. Line dancing soooooo sucks and should be treated with the contempt it deserves. So there!!!! Jive is the best and they should never have closed The Kings Arms in Christchurch. Bring back Paul Amos, I say, the best Jive instructor on the south coast. |

Having been to the West Coast of America a couple of times and spent many months over there I have to say that's a bit blinkered, particularly given your user name Countryboy! I'm not a fan of WCS at all but we can all have a try at things if we want to.
This forum lets us all express our opinions on things and it's good to be able to talk amongst one another and ask for other folks' recommendations and advice. It's good to try things out and have a change now and then but it's best if we have a choice and can give feedback. We all can get rather emotional over our feelings on the dance venues which shows how passionate about it we are. I certainly have done but let's try to at least listen to one another, it's good to talk. we can all learn a thing or two |

Oh well...Since Jive, Swing, WCS, Salsa etc all came from the States we best go back to Morris dancing. _________________ Life is not a rehearsal

We can always rely on you to introduce yet another dance style into this Jive forum can't we.

Yes, but guess where the French got it from? |

Er, is that a trick question Olly?! Do I need to go away and think about this one?!
Only, if something originates from somewhere then that's where it stated from - IE didn't get it from anywhere else...
Appreciate that the many dance varieties that went into the original melting pot where imported (mostly) from the States, but that aforementioned melting pot was in France. Or am I missing the point entirely?! _________________ http://www.le-jive.co.uk/

How about: 'It came from the U.S.A via France.' Does that sound better? |

Sounds right to me Andy
This link has a LEROC history stating clearing its US origins.

It is interesting that the French connection is often quoted. In reality it was one man 'James Cronin' who did a bit French Jive on visits to France. However, a little research will show that it was very small in France and did not last long. I think the ‘so called’ French heritage adds a bit of colour to the history. _________________ Life is not a rehearsal

Like Pettit Pois some things sound good / more exotic in French
I often wonder what the French do to make something sound more fancy. |

I find Countryboy quite blinkered in his outlook. I can do many different styles of dance, thank God, as there is too much music in the world to not be able to dance to all of it. I have found that I can turn my feet to any type of dance. Some of us do have a talent for dance and there is always a begrudger somewhere. Maybe his name should be "Backward Boy" and he should be resigned to the dark ages ? Dancing is an organic artform that grows and changes...it is evolutional. They only time you need to stick to any rules is at competion level and how many of us are at that level or even want to be there. Dancing is a joy I could not live without be it Jive, Tango, Salsa, Street Dance, Jazz, Ballroom and.... Saints preserve us !!!...West Coast Swing !!!! |
