I have been asked to organise a fund raising freestyle in support af a water project and a school in Nepal. My daughter and a group of her school friends have paid for their flights and expenses to cover the 3 weeks which they will be spending in Nepal over Christmas and the New Year, but they now need to raise as much money as they can towards the various projects which they will be helping with whilst they are there.

Not having organised anything like this before, it is proving to be a bit of a headache.... We have decided that, rather than hold the event at the school on Weymouth, it would probably be better attended if we hold it somewhere more easily accessible for the dancers who attend the freestyles listed on this site.

Does anybody have any thoughts regarding possible venues, DJ's etc, remembering that the aim is to keep costs to a minimum so that as much money as possible can be used in support of community in Nepal that we are trying to help......ALL suggestions gratefully received! Very Happy

Nicky, I would suggest that the 24th October or the 20th November would be the best dates to stage something. Both nights have only one freestyle currently booked. If you could get somewhere like Minstead for one of those nights, you might get quite a few dancers. Just a thought. If you can't get a good DJ, I have plenty of Jive tracks and would be happy to spin a few. I don't have any sound equipment though. Cheers, SJ

Jiveolution did a "Jive-othon" - Er, Jive marathon... Some time ago.

Basically, at least one couple on the dance floor at all times for 12 hours straight. All for charity - every dancer turning up had a minimum entry that could be covered by sponsors or out of their own pocket. Every one who turned up to the Jiveolution event did the extra leg work and got sponsered - it raise a lot of money..!

It was held during the day - something like 10am to 10pm with people doing food runs during the day. Since it was a day event, running from a school hall was no problem - this would have helped keep costs down. And it is something different...

It was a great day and the outcome (raising money for charity) was really well achieved.

Thanks for your suggestion TeeDee. A good idea, but as it would appear that Jiveolution have already organised one for this autumn, I dont think that it would be right for me to organise another one.

Many thanks for your kind offer Paul... I am currently trying to sort out the venue booking, but will keep everyone posted once I can confirm the date and venue Very Happy

That okay Nicky - I wasn't aware (hands up - I didn't check either) that Jiveolution are doing another one this Autumn 'til SJ posted it here... Hey-Ho, never mind!
