This is a WCS freestyle held by Jive-o-lution and Steve Hunt. "The Barn" is a, surprize, surprize, a converted barn basically round the back of someones house Smile. Don't let that put you off tho, it puts many more public halls to shame.

It has no bar, but does have a little coffee, tea, cakes area (provided free, loads Smile). The dance floor is very roughly around the size of Minstead in square feet (I would guess, maybe a touch smaller) and fantastic to dance on. It's perfect for WCS. Seating is more coffee shop style than village hall style, all soft sofas and comfy chairs.

It was busy enough that you had to just keep quarter of an eye on floorcraft, but you never felt cramped at all.

There were no "stars" at this freestyle (barring teacher Mr. Hunt himself Smile), but in a way I think that helped in that nobody was intimidated. Everyone got on the dance floor really quickly (faster than most jive freestyles!) and everybody seemed to be asking everybody else to dance. From then on, the dance floor was pretty well occupied all night. No refusals is always a good thing Smile.

Steve Hunt did a musicality class, myself I am not a fan of classes at freestyles, but everybody seemed to enjoy it.

Music was good, it didn't get to slow or especially to fast. A good mix of well known WCS songs and the odd challenging or unknown one.

Personally I had a great time and def will be back. Roll on the next one.

Just out of interest, when I used to do my freestyles I was insured with, 'Tort', weekday classes were fine, but you had to do a 'Class' for my insurance to remain valid! You could then continue the evening with social dancing.

I took the UKA exams last year and you can then obtain their insurance which allows for an, 'Event' without the need for a class.

I heard that as well as insurance being on a different band and therefore cheaper, some halls had reduced prices for "education" so it was worth whacking in a class.

Just things wot I heard down the pub tho, who understands the mysterious wisdom of the organiser class! Smile Smile Smile

The next Barn freestyle is on Saturday July the 2nd! I believe an early evening barbecue could be on the cards also if the weather is good!

I would be there, but unfort it clashes with the Late Lounge. Really annoying! Sad.

Anyway, I hope it's a really good night so they'll start doing this freestyle monthly. I defo be trying to get to the next one.
